Personal Summary
Mr. Andrew Thorpe qualified from Leeds University in 1972.
in 1984 he was appointed as Consultant cardiothoracic surgeon
in Sheffield Hospital. His work did not only had a clinical
impact in the services but led to the development of a
successful esophageal laboratory.
In 1998 he was appointed a consultant
Thoracic Surgeon in Leeds General Infirmary. He has recently
taken upon the additional post of clinical Director of Thoracic
Services.
Mr. Thorpe has published extensively
in International Journals and has been the co-author in surgical
textbooks. He is also a peer reviewer in international Journals
and enjoys regular teaching and lecturing. His MD thesis
involves studying the autonomic denervation in oesophageal
motility disorders
Professional Interests
Lung and oesophageal oncology, Benign disease of the oesophagus,
Pectus deformity ( Ravitch or Nuss repair ), Lung volume
reduction surgery, Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery.
Other Interests
Teaching, lecturing, art, mountaineering.
