The MacMillan Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team
The role the
MacMillan Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team is to
equip primary carers with the skills and knowledge to strive
to promote the highest standards of care for patients with
lung cancer. The role therefore includes education, clinical
expertise, contributing to the MDT activities in either hospital
or community settings, research and management.
The lung cancer
team aim to influence patient care by providing indirect
and direct services.
Indirect services
can involve strategy and policy making activities that influence
patient care in a number of ways. This involves empowering
and supporting primary carers, assessing and advising the
development of care plans, focusing on clinical practice,
teaching and education. The lung nurses are a resource for
other professionals and to provide specialist advice on nursing
intervention, empowering others to carry out that care.
Direct services
can be provided at the request of the primary carer when
patients present with highly complex problems that require
specialist nurse intervention.
The team aims
to maintain a visible presence on wards and outpatient departments
and to maintain close working links with community teams
to ensure the provision of continued nursing and clinical
care. Referrals can be made to the team with the MacMillan
Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Referral Form
or on the helpline 0113 3924061.
